Crypt of the NecroDancer: SYNCHRONY

Crypt of the NecroDancer: SYNCHRONY

I played the hell out of this DLC for Crypt of the NecroDancer, but keep in mind: I will play absolutely anything NecroDancer-themed. Its first DLC, AMPLIFIED, was one of my favourite releases of 2017 despite not even being a full game. Compared to that title, SYNCHRONY is a scant offering. It introduces some new equipment and obstacles (less than half of what AMPLIFIED did) and no new levels or story content. The most worthwhile additions are three new characters. They cover the full range from straightforward to completely unorthodox, and they all have their charms. One of them is particularly unforgiving, but if you’re buying DLC for a nine-year-old game, it’s probably one you’re experienced and skilled at. Which brings me to the strangest part about SYNCHRONY: it adds online multiplayer and mod support. I don’t want to characterize this as locking these features behind a paywall. These are extremely high-effort inclusions that deserve monetary compensation. It’s just an incredibly weird decision to add them this late and in this manner.
