DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part Two
I adore the gameplay loop of DOOM Eternal. You could dull its soundtrack, introduce annoying enemies, add increasingly dumb plot twists to its already fairly dumb story, and give it an inappropriate final boss, and I would still have loads of fun. The Ancient Gods – Part Two does all of these things, if that wasn’t obvious. Unlike Part One, though, the annoying enemies are used sparingly and reasonably, and the plot twists almost make sense. It also dips into the well of pure catharsis more often, giving players a powerful new weapon and frequent scenarios where you’re clearly invited to just go to town with it. As a conclusion to the whole saga, it’s surprisingly anticlimactic, but the fact that it provides some kind of narrative closure at all is more than I expected from it, and the new gameplay additions keep the gory splendour fresh for another 6 hours.
