Little Nightmares: Secrets of the Maw
The horror genre isn’t a great fit for DLC; it’s hard to be scared of something you’re already familiar with. I thought this was why, despite retaining Little Nightmares’ stellar atmosphere and production values, the first two parts of Secrets of the Maw didn’t really click for me. It didn’t help that they also featured some hackneyed puzzles and insubstantial plots, especially The Depths. Then The Residence shattered that assertion by providing the most terrifying chapter of the whole package, including the base game, not to mention more interesting gameplay and narrative elements. It was still held down by Little Nightmares’ inconvenient controls and camera, but it was a strong finish to an otherwise humdrum expansion.
