Pokémon Trozei!
Pokémon has a pretty good track record when it comes to spin-offs, but they don’t get much more pedestrian than the oddly-named Pokémon Trozei! It’s a decent matching-tile puzzler with a Pokémon coat of paint, and that’s all. The only original mechanic it has is that achieving a “Trozei” (a line of four matching Pokémon) decreases the number required for additional Trozei for a few seconds, and using more Pokémon than necessary spawns wildcards. The fact that the tiles are Pokémon has no bearing on the gameplay. Catching each species via Trozei is a secondary goal, but the rules that govern the appearance of rare Pokémon are incredibly inconvenient. It’s perfectly well-made; the touch screen is a natural fit for these mechanics, the jazzy audio is a nice change of pace from the franchise’s usual fare, and it even gets surprisingly challenging at times. There’s just no substance to it.
